With 1969 and the total withdrawal of steam from British Railways looming locos which fall foul of mechanical breakdowns or which require overhauls are quietly withdrawn and hauled away for scrap. This unnamed 3F was taken in to the works and partially stripped ready for maintenance when it was found there were no more replacement parts in the stores.

Bit of an emotional overplay on the Thomas theme but there was a very similar illustration in the books, as a child it left an impression, an impression that scrapping a steam loco was more akin to taking an old sheep dog behind the barn with a shotgun.

Final edit, added a cooling filter and a lens flare to the cutting torch.

Ohh... how sad. I feel bad that the 3F's fate is a dismantled pile of rusted scrap. With the amount of rust and grime on him, I'd say he was just as old as the hills. But a fine a piece of work! It shows that it's not always happy a-bundle-of-rainbows in the engine universe (like stereotypes may think). Well done!
